Short version: your buyers’ personal data doesn’t sit in our systems, so there’s almost nothing of theirs to delete, and everything tied to your store is wiped the moment you uninstall. Here’s the slightly longer version.
When a customer asks to be deleted
When one of your buyers asks to be forgotten, Shopify passes that request to every app you’ve installed, including us. On our side there’s nothing to remove, because we never store a customer’s name or identity against their address in the first place. The address itself lives in Shopify, and Shopify’s own deletion takes care of it. Data-export requests work the same way: there’s no per-customer file on our side to hand over.
When you uninstall
Uninstalling wipes everything connected to your store. The moment you remove Address Verifier, every record tied to your shop is deleted: your settings, your analytics, your billing history, and everything else. Those records are deleted outright, not flagged for cleanup later. Shopify also sends us a separate erasure signal a little while after you uninstall, and we run the same wipe again to be sure. Reinstall later and you start fresh, with defaults restored and counters back at zero.
The shared address cache
To avoid checking the same address twice, Address Verifier holds verified results for a short window, up to 90 days, before they expire on their own. These entries are about addresses, not people: no name, no order, no link back to a customer or a store. If you ever want a specific address cleared out before then, just ask. For the full list of what we keep and what we don’t, see What we store.
Doing a formal privacy review?
Address Verifier is built for US stores, but plenty of them ship to EU buyers, which is why GDPR comes up at all. Our handling of an EU buyer’s address is limited to the verification itself plus the anonymized cache above. The full legal version lives in our privacy policy. If you’re running a data-protection review and need something the policy doesn’t cover, email [email protected] and a human will answer, not a template.
