Getting started: setup after install

Address Verifier ships with working defaults. A short setup guide stands between install and your first caught address: set your rules, then add the verification block to your thank-you and order status pages.

The app works minutes after install. The home screen shows a setup guide grouped by the app’s two parts: Rules, your own policies, and Verification, which confirms every address is deliverable and hands buyers the fix. The guide checks each step off on its own as it sees proof it’s done. Here is what each step does and why it’s there. (Shopify Plus stores with verification on see one extra Verification step for in-checkout correction; everyone else won’t.)

The setup guide on the Address Verifier home screen

Step 1: Turn on your rules

A fresh install already has sensible defaults. The quality checks (missing house number, ZIP format, unusual characters) start on Warn after purchase, because a typo shouldn’t cost you a sale. The policy rules (PO Box, military addresses, Packstation) start Off, because whether you ship to a PO Box is your call, not ours.

Open the Rules page, review each rule, and set the ones that match your shipping policy. Changes go live on the next checkout. Nothing blocks at checkout until you choose Block, and Warn vs Block explains how to choose.

Step 2: Add the block to your thank-you page

This step is manual, because Shopify gives apps no way to place checkout blocks on your behalf. Open the checkout editor (the setup guide has a button straight to it), find the thank-you page, and add the Address Verification block. Without it your Warn rules have nowhere to show, though your Block rules still work either way since they run inside checkout itself.

Once the block is live, place one order with a deliberate typo in the address. The thank-you page should show the buyer the fix, ready to apply, the order picks up its tag, and your dashboard counts its first check. The guide ticks this step off on its own when that first real check comes through. Test with a bad address walks through what to enter and what to expect.

Step 3: Add the block to your order status page

This is the same block placed on a second page. Buyers tend to close the thank-you page and never reopen it, so the order status page, where they land later from the confirmation email, carries the same prompt as a second chance to fix the address. A buyer who already resolved the prompt is never asked again on either page.

The order status block does need new customer accounts to run, so stores still on legacy customer accounts keep the thank-you page only, which already covers the first and best moment to catch a bad address.
